Although, not created by a Uruguayan artist, “The Hand,” represents the change of a more modern art and was made for First Encounter of Modern Outdoor Sculpture event in Punta del Este. The sculpture was created by Mario Irrazábal from Chile and features a large hand coming out of the sand symbolizing new life. This artist did not make the sculpture exclusively in Uruguay, but has made similar sculptures in other areas in the world. Venice and Madrid are homes to other sculptures, but are nowhere near as popular as the one in Uruguay, giving it the most popular attraction of the country (Travel Uruguay – Tourism).
